Renata Trebing - The Power of Food

Hi! I’m Renata! I’m the creator of NourishwithRenata.com, a healthy and delish recipe blog, and Nutrition Coach based in Houston, Texas. Everything that I’m passionate about can be summed up in 3 simple items:

So often, we look at forms of food as “bad” or “guilty foods” and we punish ourselves for eating them. But I encourage you to look at food in a whole new way: as a way to nourish your body and show yourself some love!

It took me a long time to understand the connection between food and fulfillment. I don’t mean just feeling full, although that is important, but also how food can truly nourish our bodies, minds, and souls.

The way I came to this realization was when my daughter, Olivia, was born. When Olivia was an infant, she suffered from horrible stomach issues. I couldn’t understand why she felt so awful. It wasn’t until our pediatrician explained to me that the foods that I was eating as her mother were being passed through my breast milk and could be affecting her stomach. One of the possible allergens was dairy. So I cut dairy out of my diet and Olivia got so much better! In addition, I wasn’t feeling gassy, bloated, and lethargic. This really opened my eyes up to how food not only affects our wellbeing but it also affects the wellbeing of those around us, like our children.

At the same time, my husband, Cody, was suffering from his own digestive issues. This issue was due to a lack of something... fruits and veggies! As a true Texan man, Cody relied heavily on meat and potatoes but his digestive system needed more fiber than that. After some experimentation, I created a bunch of smoothie recipes that packed in lots of fruits and veggies, but still tasted delicious! We were able to rapidly help his digestion as well as get him off high cholesterol medication.

The power of food is immense! It not only dramatically improved the health of my daughter and my husband, but it caused me to think about food in a totally different way. Food is not only sustenance to nourish your body, but it can also open your mind to new possibilities, and when you see how it can change lives, food can fill your soul.

Over the past few years, I have been soaking up all the knowledge I can get about nutrition and coaching. I am now a Fitness Nutrition Specialist and Nutrition Coach too.

While there have been many amazing changes, my mission remains the same. To help you transform the way you think about food, from punishment and guilt to nourishing your amazing body so you can live your happiest and healthiest life!

What was your first job? My first job was delivering newspapers! I did it over the Christmas Holidays and I was the backup newspaper delivery person when the first person went on vacation.

What are you reading now? I am reading the Body Love Every Day book by Kelly LeVeque. She is a big role model for me and I love the science she brings to nutrition as well as the simplicity of her recipes.

If you could give your younger self advice, what would it be? To just GO FOR IT! I spent waaaay too much time holding myself back and trying to fit into what other people thought I should be. Thankfully, now in my 30s, I feel freer than ever to be myself, pursue my dreams, and make a positive impact on this world!
