Katie Wight - Solo mum, Intuitive Empath, Tarot Reader, and Eco Beauty Salon Owner

Yearning for change but too scared to follow your calling?

”Life is too short to waste time waiting for other people’s approval on how you live it.” – Steve Maraboli

My purpose has not always been clear to me. In fact, I didn’t understand the significance of finding your life purpose until recently in my late thirties. From a young age, I followed by dreams no matter what people thought or what plot twists life threw at me. I didn’t realise that this was unusual.

So, hello! My name is Katie, and this is my story. I'm a solo Mum, intuitive empath, tarot reader, and eco beauty salon owner and I live in Aberdeenshire. I’m also a pro-make-up, beauty, and hair artist specialising in Bridal and TV. My background is in film, TV, and Musical Theatre. But that wasn’t always the case...

I remember being in my early teens and making a promise to myself that I would always follow my heart. I had a hang-up about living a conventional life. Not that there is anything wrong with that, I intuitively knew I was to take an alternative route.

I was very fortunate growing up that my parents encouraged me to follow what made me happy. I was lucky to be surrounded by the arts, travel, and creativity. I was a shy, highly sensitive, and awkward teen who struggled to fit in. Moving from Glasgow to Aberdeenshire in the first year of secondary school made me stick out like a sore thumb and I was picked on for my Weegie accent and blushing. Academy crippled my confidence but I had big hopes and dreams to pursue. I had to be brave. So I faked it.

I blossomed late at school when I started to come out of my shell and get involved in the school shows, art, and music. I started dancing in my late teens and decided that I wanted to train in musical theatre in London.

I attended the Scottish Youth Theatre for experience. I needed bags of confidence and experience so I studied at Edinburgh Telford College first before auditioning for London. After a lot of hard work, I was accepted into the Arts Educational Schools London. Yes, it was like Fame! and it was a very disciplined path.

I graduated as a professional actor, singer, and dancer in 2004. I remember working three jobs in a day to have the flexibility to audition.

A few years later after working in theatre, I started to crave stability so I applied for work experience at the BBC TV studios in entertainment. Working unpaid initially, that led me to move back to Aberdeen (plot twist!) to work on the BBC production of Trawlermen and various other radio and TV Programmes. But I was restless, so after traveling for a spell I followed my yearning for a bit of stability and I succumbed to working in the oil industry in health and safety. I always hoped my name would be in lights, but not in neon!

I had stability, but I felt like a square peg in a round hole and I was miserable. I battled anxiety and depression. So! Life had become what I feared, but it was ok. 6 years passed and I’d had a baby girl called Skye. I then left a toxic relationship, unexpectedly became a single parent, was homeless for a spell with a toddler, and was made redundant in a very short space of time... (another...plot twist!)

This was a traumatic turning point in my life and this triggered a spiritual and psychic awakening. I was lost, but I started to wake up to who I really was. A spiritual being having a human experience. I felt like I had been asleep my whole life. Life looked very different now and I felt a life force inside of me asking what was my purpose?

So I returned to my passions and turned towards my heart. Having developed my skills by becoming a make-up artist at the Academy of Make-Up in 2014. I worked freelance in bridal and latterly as a celebrity make up artist for the BBC.

I opened The Looking Glass treatment room in Banchory, Aberdeenshire in 2020. It is an eco-friendly salon. Two weeks before lockdown! I didn’t expect to close my doors for the duration of lockdown (plot twist!) but I intuitively felt that the universe had other plans for me. That I was to follow another path toward my purpose. So during lockdown, alongside homeschooling and tearing my hair out! I focused on my love of tarot, developing my intuition and psychic abilities. I started reading for friends and family and was surprised by the feedback. Now I am firmly on purpose and offer intuitive guidance as a Tarot and Oracle Reader.

My purpose became clear through both my beauty and spiritual business. To help others see their inner beauty beyond the mirror and to help guide others who feel lost. All these experiences, good or not so have brought me to where I am today and I’m eternally grateful.

“Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do.” – Steve Jobs

Feeling brave?

I have no clue how I got here, I just knew I had to follow my heart and my inner guidance system.
