Emily - Beauty Therapist
Me and my Beauty Career
Where it all began….
Back in 2002 when I left high school I was all set to do my A levels in textile design and photography with the idea of becoming an interior designer. As the month of September was becoming closer I just had this niggle and it just didn’t feel right to start my A levels.
From being a little girl I have always loved having my nails painted, playing with my mums makeup and just being a real girly girl, so instead of pursuing my A levels I just quickly changed my mind and trusted my niggle and signed up to a beauty therapy course at my local college.
Ever since that day I just knew it was the best decision that I had made and my career has just flourished ever since. After two years at beauty college I worked in a local salon and after a year or so decided that I needed more from my career and started to work at a hotel spa. I hadn’t been working long at the spa when I decided to leave and look for salon work again, I just didn’t like the turn over of clients and for me, it is so important that I build a relationship with my clients and get to know them.
After finding a lovely salon close to home I found myself settled there for almost 8 years where my career within the beauty industry thrived and I was honoured that I was offered the position of salon manager. I was fortunate to receive the best training and I started to become an expert and know what areas of my industry I wanted to be my niche. I qualified as a beauty therapy teacher in 2010 as I loved to pass on my knowledge to others.
In 2012 I had my first baby a little boy called Harry and he just turned my world upside down for the better, I had never felt love like that before unconditional love for your child is just amazing. It was time to return to work after maternity leave, and I was dreading it. I just didn’t settle when I returned to the salon, I felt I no longer fit in with the team, having a child gives you a whole different perspective on life and made me want to strive for more. So I decided to look for another job.
My new job was the job had always wanted I was over the moon, a small team that became like a second family to me, perfect hours to work around Harry and I was the salon manager. I was happy in my work and everything felt good. In 2016 I gave birth to my little girl Grace, after Grace I ended up having much more time off due to having to have an operation on my hand. It gave me more time to reflect and where I was in my career. That dreaded day came around and maternity leave was over and I had to return to work, strangely this time was really hard. I was only back a short while and I decided enough was enough I wanted my own beauty business and to become my own boss. That was the best decision I had ever made I felt so free and that I was my own destiny.
I found a gorgeous little room within a very established hair salon, and I am so proud of my business and love my calming piece of heaven I call my room. I am so passionate about my work and my mission is to make people feel amazing from the moment they walk into the salon. So many of my clients have become the best of friends to me and we love to put the world to rights when they come for their visit. My job is not just about making people look good it about making them feel amazing and that they can talk to me about anything. I love the trusting relationships that we have built up over the years.
